YACHT CLUB ITALIANO PORTOFINO

The project for the summer location of the Yacht Club Italiano in Portofino consists of a new large canopy over the existing terrace.
The canopy in conceived as a “flying carpet”, articulated in seven modular spans of different widths according to the existing orography.
The roof’s static scheme consists of a single pillar per span, supported by a pair of tie-rods and a horizontal beam, following structural proportions that relate the intervention to a nautical work ( tie-rod : beam = shroud : spreader).
Besides freeing the view by eliminating any visual encumbrance towards the sea, this structural scheme creates an ideal continuity of the new terrace with the sailboats moored at the pier in front of the Yacht Club.
